The United girls lost to Regina Queen City United in the gold medal game 2-1 in penalty kicks. The United girls scored a highlight-reel golden goal in extra time in the semi-final to a earn a 3-2 win over Regina ACFC after finishing the round robin in first place. Swift Current began the weekend with a 1-1 tie against ACFC and a 2-2 tie against Lloydminster. A 2-1 win over Regina United placed the United girls in first-place in their pool and earned them a semi-finals birth. Swift Current overcame a small roster of only 10 players and came from behind in four of their five games on their way to a hard-earned silver medal that took a lot of heart and determination. Not only did the U14 girls make a statement with their skill and determination but they also were rewarded for their sportsmanship with a Fair Play Award from the Saskatchewan Soccer Association. The silver medal capped a successful season in which the United girls earned a number of excellent results in tournament play. The United coaching staff pointed the players’ dedication to the game and their willingness to work around school activities and other after-school interests and also noted that their hard work and effort at each practice and game was vital to their successful season. In February the United girls competed in Regina at Winterfest and finished with a 2-1 win over the Winnipeg Agassiz, a 2-1 loss to Lloydminster, and a 2-2 tie with the eventual tournament champions Winnipeg Phoenix. Swift Current also attended an 8 v 8 tournament in Saskatoon in February and won once and lost twice. January saw the girls in action at the RSA tournament where they lost 1-0 in the final to Regina ACFC. The United girls advanced with a 2-0 win over the U16 Humboldt squad, a 2-2 tie with a U16 team from Brandon, and a 4-1 win over Regina ACFC. In December the U14 girls won a gold medal at the U14 Div 2 Razz tournament winning five consecutive games and only allowing one goal in the tournament. The United girls began their season in November at a Premier U14 / Div 2 U16 tournament. Swift Current finished the round robin with one win, one tie, and two losses failing to advance to the final.
