The Beginning
Swift Current Youth Soccer was formed in 1985. Founding members were First President Bob Deacon and Executive Members Al Philips and Dale Perry.
SCYS was incorporated in 1988. SCYS first year was 6,7,8 year olds. In 1986, 9 year olds were added. 10 year olds were added in 1987 with 12 year olds to 19 year olds added in 1988.
1988
U14 Boys participated in a 2 game total points against Moose Jaw for the Zone 3 championship and a chance to go to provincials. First Game
was tied 2-2. The second game was won by Swift Current 7-5. The U14 team went on and won provincials for the first time. The Sask Summer Games were also held that same year
and Swift Current represented Zone 3 in the Summer Games.
In 1996 SCYS added the senior mens and ladies divisions and changed it name to Swift Current Soccer Association. The mission of SCSA is to develop and promote soccer at all levels in the Swift Current area.
Since its inception the association has seen tremendous growth and success. We now have over 900 registered girls, boys, men, women competeing in both house league and club teams at all ages.
We offer our programs in the spirit of fair play and fun with an emphasis on fulfillment through development.
Accomplishments:
The Swift Current United soccer teams have brought home many provincial gold and silver
medals since 1990. As well, many of our players have gone to play on provincial all-star teams. In 1997 one of our most untiring workers, the late Ken Billows,
was awarded the provincial David Newsham Award for outstanding volunteerism. In 2004 our club’s own Dale Perry also received this outstanding recognition. Our club
also produces some of the province’s top referees, with Swift Current’s Joe Kenworth being named the 2003 Saskatchewan Referee of the Year.
